The idea of regular dental visits wasn’t common until the early 1900s, when public health campaigns in the U.S. began promoting oral hygiene. The implant, placed in a volunteer named Gösta Larsson, lasted over 40 years and paved the way for modern dental implantology. In the 1980s, dental implants became widely accepted in the United States after the American Dental Association (ADA) recognized them as safe and effective. Today, the U.S. is a global leader in dental implant procedures, performing millions annually thanks to Dr. Brånemark’s groundbreaking innovation.
